Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo- Olu and the Chairman of the Governor's Advisory Council, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, have praised the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria for advancing religious tolerance, interfaith harmony, and peaceful coexistence across the region. Both leaders made these remarks while throwing their weight behind the group's upcoming 11th General Assembly, which is slated to hold on Sunday, November 15, 2026, at the University of Ibadan Central Mosque Hall in Oyo State.
What prompted these high-profile endorsements? The commendations followed separate courtesy visits paid to the leaders by a MUSWEN delegation headed by its President, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo. The visits were primarily designed to galvanise support and build substantial momentum ahead of the forthcoming general assembly.
Governor Sanwo-Olu hosted the delegation at Lagos House, Marina, where talks centered on how religious bodies can better foster peace, unity, and mutual understanding. During the interaction, the governor lauded religious leaders for partnering with the government to build an inclusive society. He assured the visitors that Lagos State would send a high-powered delegation to the assembly and promised financial backing for MUSWEN's proposed endowment fund.
Addressing the delegation's appeal for the resuscitation of the [Nigerian Inter-Religious Council](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NigerianInter- ReligiousCouncil) chapter in Lagos, Sanwo-Olu clarified that the inter-faith platform is already operational and enjoying steady backing from his administration. Furthermore, the governor urged MUSWEN to rally behind the All Progressives Congress and support President Bola Tinubu's potential second-term bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Prior to the Marina meeting, the delegation had called on Prince Olusi at his office in Ebute Metta, Lagos. The veteran politician and GAC leader advised Muslims to delve deeper into Islamic theology, particularly the Qur'an and Hadith. Olusi noted that Prophet Muhammad functioned as both a spiritual and political leader, encouraging Muslims to take a robust interest in Nigeria's democratic landscape rather than yielding to political apathy. He also charged the organisation to offer special prayers for peaceful and credible elections nationwide.
In his response, President Oladejo reiterated MUSWEN's unwavering dedication to national development, mutual respect, and peaceful living. He formally invited both leaders to grace the upcoming assembly in person or through representatives, while soliciting logistical and financial assistance to ensure a hitch-free event. Other prominent figures on the delegation included Deputy President I Alhaji Rafiu Adisa Ebiti, Deputy President II Alhaji Thabit 'Wale Sonaike, Executive Secretary Professor Wole Abass, Baba Adinni of Lagos Alhaji Sikiru Alabi-Macfoy, and Media Committee Chairman Alhaji Mikail Mumuni.
