The second group of 92 beneficiaries of the Ebonyi State Scholarship program has officially left for the United Kingdom to pursue further education at prestigious universities.
This momentous occasion took place at Chuba Okadigbo International Airport in Ezza and marks another significant step by the state government in fulfilling its commitment to enhancing human capital as part of the People’s Charter of Needs Agenda.
Last year, 285 students from the state were flown to similar programs, and many have since completed their Master’s degrees.
During the send-off ceremony on Monday, Governor Francis Nwifuru urged the scholarship recipients to honor the ethical principles that accompany this opportunity.
He emphasized the importance of discipline, dedication to their studies, and maintaining decorum, reminding them that numerous individuals aspired for this chance but were unable to secure it.
Nwifuru stated, “I trust that you understand that Ebonyians are industrious individuals; hard work should always be your companion.”
He continued, “Every naira invested in your scholarships results from collective sacrifices made by our communities, including farmers, traders, civil servants, and artisans who believe that your achievements will ultimately contribute to a more robust and prosperous Ebonyi State.”
“Please do not betray that trust. Make the most of every lecture, assignment, and opportunity that comes your way.”
In his remarks, the governor noted, “History, politics, and governance will evaluate us not by the number of speeches we deliver, but by the impact we have on lives. We express our gratitude to God Almighty for allowing us to facilitate this change.”
Upon their return, equipped with knowledge, skills, and international exposure, the beneficiaries will play vital roles in shaping the future of Ebonyi State.
Nwifuru expressed confidence that these scholars would contribute to building improved institutions, bolster the state’s economy, and engage competitively in an ever-evolving global landscape.
