Troops engaged in Operation WHIRL STROKE have apprehended a significant suspect during an intelligence-led operation in Agasha Village, Guma Local Government Area, Benue State, responding to reports of an attack on a local resident.
Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, the Acting Media Information Officer for HQ JTF Operation WHIRL STROKE, provided details in a statement.
The operation commenced on March 13, 2026, after security forces received reliable information about an assault on Mr. Shaapera Seeta Michael in Agasha Village. The troops from the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Intervention Battalion XI, assigned to Operation WHIRL STROKE, promptly deployed to the area to capture the individual responsible for the attack.
Upon arrival, the troops established a perimeter to prevent the suspect's escape and began a focused search operation aimed at locating and detaining the alleged perpetrator.
The suspect, identified as Mr. Suurnen David Akum, a 27-year-old resident of Agasha Village, was successfully arrested by the troops. During the operation, a locally made rifle was seized from him.
The suspect is currently under investigation and will be handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal action.
Major General Moses Gara, the Force Commander of Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, praised the troops for their professional conduct and tactical execution that enabled the arrest. He urged them to sustain their operational momentum and remain alert in their ongoing mission to disrupt criminal activities in the region.
