Troops from Sector 1 engaged in Operation WHIRL STROKE successfully eliminated two bandits along the Katsina-Ala–Zaki Biam Road in Benue State. The announcement came from Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, on March 1, 2026.
Lt. Zubairu noted that the troops collaborated with the local security organization, the Civil Protection Guard, to mobilize to the area following reliable intelligence.
The statement indicated, "Troops of Sector 1 under Operation WHIRL STROKE have achieved another notable operational success in their ongoing mission to eliminate criminal and terrorist threats in Benue State."
The operation occurred during a joint patrol aimed at enhancing community confidence along the Katsina-Ala–Zaki Biam Road. The troops acted on credible information from local residents and quickly moved to the identified site alongside the Benue State Civil Protection Guard operatives.
Upon arriving at the specified location, the forces encountered the suspected bandits. During the clash, two bandits were neutralized, while others managed to escape into nearby bushes, likely sustaining gunshot injuries.
Subsequently, the troops conducted a thorough search of the area, recovering one AK-47 rifle, an additional AK-47 magazine, eight rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a set of green camouflage uniforms left behind by the fleeing criminals.
Major General Moses Gara, Force Commander of Operation WHIRL STROKE, praised the troops for their bravery, professionalism, and promptness in responding to the situation. He emphasized that their proactive measures continue to yield favorable outcomes in the fight against banditry and terrorism.
General Gara also acknowledged the essential role of the local communities in providing timely and actionable intelligence, which is crucial for the operational success of the military. He encouraged residents to maintain their support for security forces and reassured them of the military’s steadfast commitment to ensuring safety and security.
Furthermore, he urged the troops to continue fostering collaboration with other security entities and relevant stakeholders, underscoring that collective efforts are vital for achieving lasting security and stability throughout the Joint Operations Area.
