Senegal is set to showcase the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 trophy to their supporters as part of an international friendly match against the Gambia national team today, March 31.
The Senegalese Football Federation revealed the details of the event in an official announcement via its social media account.
According to the programme, activities will commence at 14:00 with the gates opening at Stade Abdoulaye Wade; at 16:00, there will be a pre-match ceremony coupled with live performances from invited artists; 17:45 will see the official trophy presentation, followed by the conclusion of the ceremony at 18:00, and finally, the match kick-off at 19:00 with Senegal facing Gambia.
This presentation is another act of defiance from Senegal as they continue to contest the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) controversial decision to take away their championship title.
Recently, on Saturday, Senegal had also paraded the trophy during a World Cup warm-up match against Peru held at Stade de France in Paris.
The display comes in response to the CAF’s ruling, which Senegal disputed regarding the AFCON 2025 final that took place on January 18 in Rabat.
During that final, Senegal protested a penalty decision before securing a 1-0 victory in extra time.
However, the CAF appeals committee determined on March 17 that Senegal had forfeited the match, awarding the title to Morocco with a 3-0 win.
Senegal has publicly rejected this ruling, labeling it as "unfair, unprecedented, and unacceptable."
The country has subsequently lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in a bid to reverse this decision.
