The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reported that a recent accident in Kano has claimed the lives of seven individuals and left 70 others injured, with an additional 28 unhurt in the incident.

Idris Muhammed-Lawal, the Sector Commander of the FRSC, made this announcement through a statement issued by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Labaran, on Sunday.

The accident occurred around 8:35 a.m. on Sunday along Hadejia Road, Kwanar Danja.

He stated, "We received an emergency call at 8:35 a.m. and dispatched our rescue team to the location by 8:40 a.m., which was within 5 minutes of the call."

The incident involved a single commercial vehicle, a DAF trailer bearing registration number KTG 467 YG, which was transporting both passengers and goods.

In total, the crash involved 105 individuals. According to the statement, “Seven individuals lost their lives, while 70 individuals, consisting of 55 males and 15 females, suffered varying degrees of injuries.”

Mr. Muhammed-Lawal attributed the cause of the accident to speeding and a loss of control of the vehicle, compounded by the hazardous practice of mixing passengers with cargo. He noted that the accident was a single-vehicle fatal crash and stated that road conditions at the time were good; however, no items were recovered from the crash site.

"The injured parties were quickly transported to several hospitals: Sir Sunusi Specialist Hospital in Kano received 24 victims (17 males and 7 females); Gezawa General Hospital was attended by 24 victims (16 males and 8 females); 20 males were treated at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital; and Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital in Nasarawa attended to 7 victims (5 males and 2 females)."

He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

The sector commander urged motorists, particularly commercial drivers, to refrain from speeding, reckless driving, and illegally transporting passengers in goods vehicles, all of which contribute to preventable fatalities. He also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and adhere to traffic regulations to ensure the safety of lives and property.
