Sir Ahmadu Foundation Calls for Enhanced Safety Measures Following Singer Market Fire

The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation has extended heartfelt condolences to the residents and government of Kano State in light of the tragic fire outbreak at Singer Market, which reportedly led to the loss of lives and the destruction of goods valued in billions of naira.

In an official statement from its Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Abubakar Gambo Umar, the foundation characterized the incident as a significant loss, impacting not just the affected traders and their families but also the broader commercial community of the state.

"The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation expresses its deepest sympathy to the Government and people of Kano State following the tragic fire at Singer Market, which claimed lives and destroyed properties and goods worth billions of naira," the statement detailed.

The foundation conveyed its solidarity with the bereaved families and the traders whose livelihoods have been seriously harmed by this disaster.

"We share in the grief of affected families, traders, and all whose livelihoods have been disrupted," the statement continued, offering prayers for solace for the mourning families and swift recovery for the injured.

Additionally, the foundation commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his prompt leadership response to the disaster. "The Foundation commends the swift response and leadership of the Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, alongside the tireless efforts of emergency responders who managed the crisis under challenging circumstances," it asserted.

While offering its condolences, the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation underscored the pressing need for stronger preventive strategies and emergency response measures within markets and other public spaces in the state.

They called for implementation of measures such as regular safety inspections, functioning firefighting and detection systems, rapid-response protocols, and ensuring market layouts facilitate easy access for emergency services, which can help mitigate future risks.

The Foundation emphasized that proactive safety measures are vital in averting a recurrence of such catastrophic events, especially in densely populated commercial areas.

"We pray for comfort for the bereaved, speedy recovery for those affected, and a full restoration of livelihoods," the statement further expressed, affirming the foundation's steadfast solidarity with the Government and people of Kano State during this trying period.
