Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has disclosed that the wife of former governor Peter Obi serves as the godmother to one of his children, emphasizing that their relationship remains cordial despite political differences.

Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has confirmed that the wife of former governor Peter Obi is the baptismal godmother to one of his children, highlighting deep-rooted family ties that persist despite previous political disagreements.

Speaking during an interview with BBC News Igbo, Governor Soludo revealed that his wife, Nonye, also serves as the confirmation godmother to Mr. Obi's daughter. The disclosure comes months after the connection between the two prominent families became a topic of public conversation in September.

"Peter Obi and I are good friends. Our two families are on good terms. His wife was the godmother of my child at baptism, and my wife was the godmother of his child at confirmation," the governor stated during the Monday interview.

What caused their past political disagreement?

Governor Soludo clarified that any friction between them has strictly been political, centering on divergent perspectives regarding who should lead Anambra State. He maintained that he harbors no personal grievances against Mr. Obi for supporting an alternative candidate during the gubernatorial race.

"I have a different vision of who should be governor of Anambra State. I am contesting, and he supported whoever he felt should be governor. I prevailed by the grace of God, and I don’t hold it against him," Soludo explained.

The relationship between the two political figures has often drawn intense public interest, given their prominent roles in the political landscape of southeastern Nigeria and nationally.
