A Dutch national of Somali descent, who is wanted by authorities in the UK, was captured in Germany shortly after disembarking from a flight. The 26-year- old suspect was taken into custody by federal police at Frankfurt am Main Airport immediately upon his arrival on a long-haul flight from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Officials have verified that an international arrest warrant was issued for him by UK authorities in December 2023.
According to a statement released by German police, the individual is being accused of repeatedly assaulting his 13-year-old stepsister in 2020 while residing in the UK. After being detained at the airport, he was presented to a custody judge in Frankfurt. His identity has not been disclosed. Law enforcement noted that the suspect has the option to challenge his extradition, suggesting that the procedure to hand him over to UK authorities may occur within a timeframe of 10 to 60 days, which aligns with standard protocols in such situations.
The arrest has occurred amid increasing examination of criminal cases linked to migrants. Just days before this incident, hotel employee Mehmet Ogur received a seven-year prison sentence in the UK for charges of rape and attempted rape. Ogur had initially contacted his victim via Snapchat prior to their meeting at Tamworth Castle in Staffordshire. The survivor later recounted to the court that the traumatic event had “completely destroyed” her life, remarking, “part of me wishes you’d killed me.”
Earlier this month, an Afghan migrant named Abid Sherzad was also found guilty of sexual assault after targeting a woman who had dozed off while consuming pizza following a night out. The 25-year-old struck after purchasing the takeaway for his victim. German officials have stated that investigations related to the suspect born in Somalia are still actively underway, with further updates expected as the extradition process unfolds.
