The Super Eagles have faced an injury challenge ahead of their upcoming international friendly match against Jordan. Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has been ruled out after suffering a thigh injury during training.
Team officials confirmed that the Udinese goalkeeper picked up the injury while training in Antalya, Turkey, and will be missing for the match scheduled for Tuesday.
With Okoye out, head coach Eric Chelle will rely on Francis Uzoho and Adebayo Adeleye as the two available goalkeeping options for the game.
Despite the setback, training has continued for the rest of the team in Antalya as they prepare for this crucial fixture.
Additionally, defenders Semi Ajayi and Bruno Onyemaechi have left the Super Eagles camp for personal reasons, with reports indicating that Onyemaechi's wife just gave birth.
Nigeria’s campaign began positively with a 2-1 victory over Iran, thanks to goals from Moses Simon and Akor Adams. This match also marked the debut of players Chibuike Nwaiwu and Emmanuel Fernandez as Coach Chelle integrates fresh talent into the team.
Chelle initially named a 23-man squad for the friendlies, excluding primary goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, while striker Victor Osimhen is also sidelined due to an injury.
Despite these injury concerns, the squad still features experienced players such as captain Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, and Simon, alongside a host of emerging players eager for opportunities.
The Super Eagles will take on Jordan in their final friendly of this international window on Tuesday, as Coach Chelle seeks to evaluate his options amidst the growing injury list.
