The Oyo State Police Command has taken into custody one Giwa Sodiq in relation to the murder of a man named Kehinde, which occurred during a clash in Asalu Community, located in the Lalupon region of the Lagelu Local Government Area.
DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command's spokesperson, shared this information in a press release dated February 16, 2026.
As stated by the Public Relations Officer, initial investigations indicated that community leaders informed the Iyana-Offa Division of a disturbance involving local youths, following alerts from community security guards.
The statement elaborated that, "The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended a suspect related to a criminal incident that led to the death of an individual in Asalu Community, Lalupon, Ibadan, as part of the Command's proactive strategies to uphold law and order and safeguard lives in the State."
The police spokesperson added, "Preliminary investigations reveal that community leaders reported to the Iyana-Offa Division that while they were resting, community security alerted them concerning a confrontation among youths in the locality."
Injured individuals were urgently transported to Ojo Oluwa Hospital in Iyana- Offa for necessary medical care, where one of the victims, identified as Kehinde, also known as 'Ogo Ojigbo,' unfortunately passed away from his injuries.
Upon receipt of the report, a police team led by the Divisional Police Officer from Supol Iyana-Offa swiftly arrived at both the scene and the hospital. Photographs for documentation were taken, and suspect Giwa Sodiq was arrested in connection with the event.
The remains of the deceased have been taken to the Adeo State Hospital Morgue on Ring Road, Ibadan, for preservation and subsequent autopsy.
Authorities are actively working to track down additional suspects who have fled, aiming for comprehensive prosecution. The Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna PSC (+), praised the prompt actions of the officers and urged the community to stay alert and report any suspicious activities promptly.
He further called upon the public to provide any information that might assist in capturing the remaining suspects.
Additionally, he recognized the ongoing support from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu PSC (+), NPM, in bolstering community policing efforts and law enforcement initiatives throughout the State.
Residents were also encouraged to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to ensure that their communities remain secure and safe for everyone.
