Nzube Ndiokwelu, a technology specialist and the founder of The Beaconsmith Collective, has called on young people to harness the tech innovation ecosystem to enhance the standards of technology and creative ideas within society.

Speaking at an event on Wednesday during the Enugu Tech Festival 2026, which is taking place from February 24 to February 27, Mr. Ndiokwelu stressed the importance of utilizing advancements in technology to foster improvement.

He remarked that technological growth is currently more about compounding rather than just gradual changes. With advancements such as artificial intelligence, robotics, blockchain, and new media tools, he believes that a committed small group can create significant changes in a city's dynamics in a relatively short period.

However, he added, "We must be candid; technology does not single-handedly uplift a society. Instead, it magnifies the qualities of that society. If we are unified, it enhances advancement; if we are disorganized, it amplifies confusion."

As a member of the Local Organizing Committee for the Enugu Tech Festival 2026, Mr. Ndiokwelu indicated the clear path forward for Enugu. He suggested that the community must either unite around common objectives and standards of excellence or risk falling behind with talent scattered yet yielding unsustainable outcomes.

He expressed a straightforward approach to evaluating ecosystem progress: each year should answer the question, "What did you accomplish last year that propelled the ecosystem forward?" In 2015, his primary contribution was facilitation when he organized one of Enugu's first significant developer meetups during the Google Developer Festival era.

At that time, the 'product' was networking among developers and establishing standards rather than startups. This foundational work was crucial. He emphasized, "An ecosystem cannot thrive without collaboration and collective effort to elevate standards."

Mr. Ndiokwelu shared that his organization has shifted focus from mere coordination to creating structures that help maintain progress. He highlighted that last year's efforts evolved from coordination-based activities to production.

He referenced achieving the Best AI Short Film award at the Naija AI Film Festival in Lagos in 2025, stating, "This is not motivation; it is evidence that when our creators and developers are equipped with the right tools and a conducive environment, they can produce work of international quality."

He also pointed out that reduced gatekeeping and improved access to tools have changed the landscape, leaving only standards and organizational structure as the prominent challenges.

Mr. Ndiokwelu elaborated on the role of The Beaconsmith Collective, describing it not just as another gathering but as a dynamic lab and community aimed at continuity in the tech landscape. He emphasized that building a vibrant community requires solid infrastructure, including reliable rules, enduring records, and dependable collaboration systems.

"When we say we're constructing a community built on code, we do not mean every individual must continuously write software; rather, it indicates the community's functioning based on transparent standards and contributions," he clarified.

He concluded with a vision for the Enugu Tech Festival, portraying it as a pivotal moment to synchronize the ecosystem towards excellence and translate that synchronization into meaningful actions. He noted the importance of continuously improving standards and enhancing infrastructure so that the ecosystem remains vibrant and does not regress.

The Beaconsmith Collective is committed to advancing practical initiatives in artificial intelligence, blockchain, and other pioneering technologies in Enugu.

In related remarks, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State officially inaugurated the second edition of the Enugu Tech Festival at the International Conference Centre in Enugu on Tuesday. He emphasized that technology and innovation are crucial to the transformation of Enugu under his leadership, encouraging the youth to leverage opportunities in these fields.

He remarked on the significant changes technology has induced globally, stating, "We are witnessing an economic renaissance fueled by technology. " He underlined that the rapid growth of tech-based companies illustrates that the economy is increasingly driven by ideas and innovations rather than just physical assets. The governor expressed a resolve that Enugu will actively participate in this technological revolution rather than remain passive observers.
