Suspected terrorists have kidnapped a housewife and her son in a recent assault on the Ndeji community within the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, igniting fresh concern among the residents.

Local sources report that the incident took place on Saturday night when heavily armed assailants invaded the area, firing indiscriminately and causing panic among the inhabitants who sought refuge.

As residents panicked and fled, the attackers seized the opportunity to abduct both the woman and her son, taking them to an undisclosed location.

An anonymous community member indicated that the assailants were equipped with advanced weaponry, overwhelming the local populace.

"Many of us started running in different directions because there were no security personnel to safeguard us," the individual revealed.

"Upon the commencement of their assault, a number of people sought shelter in nearby bushes, yet the terrorists managed to overpower a housewife and her son, abducting them."

The resident appealed to both the federal and state governments for immediate action, highlighting that the escalating insecurity in the region has made it increasingly challenging for residents to have a peaceful night's sleep.

This latest kidnapping incident has exacerbated fears across the communities in the Edu Local Government Area, where incidents of kidnapping and violent crime have reportedly surged in recent months.

The attack occurred just a week after other terrorists reportedly killed at least two individuals, abducted a merchant, and injured a young girl during a brutal raid on Gbugbu community, also situated within Edu LGA.

In that earlier assault, a businessman named Rilwan Bello, whose shop was located next to Ezigbo Store, was taken hostage while his sales assistant was reportedly shot dead on site.

When contacted regarding the recent kidnapping, a senior police official from the Edu Divisional Police Station in Lafiagi, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the incident.

"We are making every effort to ensure the victims are freed," the officer stated.

Concurrently, there has been a related incident where local vigilantes in Chitta community within Patigi Local Government Area managed to free three residents who had been abducted during a night raid.

Reports indicate that the attackers entered the community around midnight on Sunday, firing gunshots into the air to induce panic before abducting their three victims.

The sudden assault led to widespread fear among residents as the armed individuals navigated swiftly through the community during the abduction.

However, local vigilante members quickly mobilized after receiving emergency calls from the community, pursuing the attackers into the surrounding woods.

A source from the community reported that the vigilantes successfully confronted the kidnappers during the chase, compelling them to abandon their captives.

“The vigilantes reacted very swiftly. As soon as the bandits fled with the victims, they mobilized and pursued them. Their pressure forced the kidnappers to retreat and leave the three victims behind," the source explained.

The rescued individuals were safely returned to the community, while the assailants escaped into the forest.

Residents have since praised the local vigilante group for their quick response, noting that it prevented what could have escalated into a prolonged kidnapping episode.
