Tim Cook, the chief executive of Apple, has offered unexpected advice to users of smartphones.
In a discussion with Michael Strahan on Good Morning America, the 65-year-old leader reflected on Apple’s 50-year history, discussed the effects of recent tariffs, and highlighted the expansion of the company’s support for school music programs through its collaboration with Save The Music.
Additionally, Cook emphasized the significance of engaging with the real world rather than being solely focused on screen time.
“I don’t want people using them too much,” Cook remarked about Apple's smartphones.
He added, “I don’t want people looking at the smartphone more than they’re looking in someone’s eyes; as if they’re scrolling endlessly.”
He further advised, “This is not how you want to spend your day. Go out and spend it in nature.”
A recent study released in Frontiers in Psychiatry noted that while smartphones play a crucial role in many people's lives, they also come with adverse effects when used excessively.
The study's authors stated, “Excessive use of smartphones can cause not only physical discomfort but also feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and depression.”
Cook's comments resonate with a growing concern regarding mental well-being in the digital age, advocating for a healthier relationship with technology.
