President Bola Tinubu has given his assurance that Nigeria will surmount the challenges posed by violence and terrorism. The President reiterated his administration's commitment to safeguarding lives and property, emphasizing that the nation is on a path of continuous advancement.
"We will keep making progress, and Nigeria is poised for greatness," he stated.
These declarations were made on Saturday at the official opening of the Gateway International Cargo Airport in Iperu, Ogun State, a project initiated by Governor Dapo Abiodun's administration. President Tinubu highlighted that the infrastructure projects and economic reforms undertaken by his government are specifically designed to benefit the populace and foster sustained economic growth.
He remarked, "Our investments are directed towards our people. The infrastructure we are building underscores our deep belief in our nation, and it lays the groundwork for future prosperity."
Tinubu lauded Governor Abiodun for his dedication to the welfare of Ogun State's residents and Nigerians as a whole. He noted that the airport's facilities include an independent power supply, demonstrating a commitment to energy investment.
"Progress must be felt across all levels. I am particularly pleased with the advancements in mobility, security, and agriculture that are being realized today," Tinubu added.
During his visit, the President also commissioned 1,000 electric bikes, security vehicles, and tractors. He acknowledged the ongoing support from Nigerians for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and pointed out that current reforms have led to an increase in resources available to sub-national governments.
He expressed satisfaction with how state governors are utilizing these resources for development and commended Governor Abiodun for aligning his initiatives with the administration's "Renewed Hope Agenda." The President described the introduction of electric bikes as a forward-thinking response to contemporary transportation demands, stressing the importance of adopting technology over reliance on fossil fuels.
He also praised the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, for implementing measures aimed at enhancing the ease of doing business and improving staff welfare.
"Nigeria will remember your contributions. Your legacies, dedication, and patriotism are greatly valued," he affirmed.
President Tinubu also inaugurated a comprehensive Customs Hub, which includes barracks, a training college, a warehouse, and a hospital.
Governor Abiodun, speaking earlier, described the President's presence as a historic occasion, symbolizing his dedication to national development. He lauded Tinubu's economic reforms, including the unification of foreign exchange rates, the removal of fuel subsidies, and the restructuring of public finances, noting that these actions have boosted investor confidence and attracted foreign capital.
Abiodun also highlighted initiatives such as the Compressed Natural Gas Programme, NELFUND, rail modernization efforts, and significant highway projects as key components in repositioning the national economy.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended the President's democratic leadership and reform agenda. He also suggested decentralizing the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to improve electricity distribution.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo also praised President Tinubu's leadership and acknowledged the progress witnessed in Ogun State over the years.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by numerous ministers, governors, and traditional rulers.
