A loving father of three was killed after offering a ride to a female hitchhiker, as reported by authorities.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police stated that William Palmer was fatally shot on Sunday morning, February 1, after he extended help to Brittany Rivoire, 36, taking her to a warming shelter in St. Louis, Missouri.
However, William's goodwill spiraled into a horrifying ordeal when Brittany allegedly brandished a firearm and shot him.
William's lifeless body was found shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, with officials declaring him dead at the scene.
His fiancée, Riyen Jones, mentioned that Palmer was collecting scrap metal when he noticed Rivoire on the roadside. Initially accompanied by a friend, he stopped to offer her a ride, but his friend left after becoming concerned about Rivoire's unusual actions, as reported by First Alert 4.
Riyen had previously cautioned William against picking up strangers due to safety concerns.
She shared, "I often advised him not to give rides to people he didn’t know anymore. He frequently did it. If he spotted someone walking, he would offer them a lift.
"It’s unfathomable that someone could take advantage of his kindness, especially for just his truck."
According to the police, surveillance footage captured Rivoire shooting Palmer in the head before she drove his truck a short distance and then abandoned it. She later managed to get a ride with another driver until her arrest.
Rivoire now faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, illegal possession of a firearm, armed criminal action, and first-degree tampering with a vehicle. She currently remains in custody without bail, as per official records.
Palmer's relatives highlighted his altruistic nature, noting that he was known for assisting strangers and often went out of his way to help those in need. Riyen described her fiancé as the central figure of their family, emphasizing that he was inherently generous.
A GoFundMe campaign initiated by Riyen states: "William Palmer was a kind- hearted, helpful person and an exceptional father and friend. Even if you aren't able to contribute financially, sharing this would mean a lot."
The campaign has already garnered over $2,500 towards a target of $3,000.
