U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that he has no intentions of deploying American military forces to the Middle East, with the conflict concerning Iran nearing its fourth week.
Addressing reporters at the White House, Trump rejected the idea of any troop deployment in response to a question from the press.
“I'm not putting troops anywhere,” he remarked. “If I were, I certainly wouldn't disclose that to you. However, I am not planning to send troops. We will take any necessary actions.”
These statements were made during a meeting in the Oval Office with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
Despite Trump's assertions, reports suggest that his administration has been contemplating the option of sending thousands of U.S. soldiers to bolster operations related to the ongoing conflict, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Tensions have escalated since Iran initiated strikes on U.S. military facilities, which ignited hostilities on February 28.
Since the beginning of these strikes, at least 13 U.S. service members have lost their lives.
