The Ekiti State Police Command has reported the arrest of two suspects involved in an attack against officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Ikere-Ekiti.
According to SP Sunday Abutu, the police spokesperson, the arrests were confirmed on Friday, April 2, 2026. The command also stated that weapons and a vehicle used in the alleged incident were recovered.
The statement indicated that the incident, which occurred around 8:00 a.m. on April 2, 2026, involved approximately 20 assailants armed with various weapons. They reportedly arrived at the NURTW Lagos Motor Park in Ikere-Ekiti in five vehicles.
It is alleged that the attackers specifically targeted the park's executives with the intention of forcibly seizing control of its leadership. The group also reportedly damaged campaign posters for Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, in several areas of Ikere- Ekiti.
Upon receiving a distress call, police officers were dispatched to the scene. Their intervention led to the apprehension of two suspects, identified as Sunday Ogunsakin and Gbenga Oluwatosin, while other individuals involved managed to escape.
Authorities recovered three cutlasses, a jackknife, and a Toyota Previa bus, which are believed to have been utilized during the commission of the alleged crimes.
The police stated that investigations are ongoing to locate and apprehend the remaining suspects who are currently at large.
Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, issued a statement urging the public to remain law-abiding and to refrain from resorting to self-help or engaging in acts that could disrupt public peace. He emphasized the importance of respecting citizens' rights and reiterated the command's commitment to maintaining the prevailing peace within the state.
