The Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos (UniJos), Prof. Ishaya Tanko, has instructed members of the university community to adopt a heightened sense of caution and awareness in their movements both on and off campus, effective immediately.
This directive comes in response to a series of recent attacks and killings in various localities within Plateau State, which have created an atmosphere of increased tension in the Jos area, prompting security agencies to step up efforts to restore peace.
Reports indicate that law enforcement officials, including military personnel and police officers, have been assigned to critical sites throughout the state capital to help protect lives and property.
In a communiqué issued by the Deputy Registrar for Information and Public Relations, Emmanuel Madugu, representing the Registrar, the university management encouraged staff, students, and other stakeholders to refrain from unnecessary travel, especially in the early morning hours.
Additionally, the administration urged that any signs of disturbances should be reported promptly to the University Security Division.
Management reassured faculty and students that the University Security Division, collaborating with relevant agencies, is implementing all necessary security measures to ensure the safety of individuals and property on campus.
"We ask residents and university affiliates to stay alert while authorities work diligently to maintain order," the statement concluded.
