Mourning has enveloped the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan following the reported death of an unidentified 300-level medical student. The student allegedly took his own life by consuming a toxic substance on Sunday night, March 1.

Funmi Adetuyibi, the Public Relations Officer for UCH, confirmed the tragic event. She stated, "The boy passed away on Sunday evening. The student was brought in based on the report that he consumed Sniper, and the UCH responded accordingly. Sadly, he did not survive."

Eyewitnesses reported finding the deceased student lying on the ground floor of Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall, exhibiting signs of disorientation and foaming at the mouth. The victim is said to have confessed to ingesting the insecticide, identified as Sniper, shortly before losing consciousness.

He was initially taken to Jaja Clinic, where medical personnel attempted to stabilize him with oxygen and intravenous fluids. Subsequently, he was transferred to the UCH's emergency unit and placed on life support.

The student's parents, who reside in Akure, Ondo State, were summoned to the hospital prior to his passing. While the parents suggested the possibility of poisoning, the student's roommates maintained that he had admitted to consuming the insecticide. They also noted a recent change in his behaviour, including increased withdrawal, infrequent class attendance, and avoidance of his parents' calls.
