U.S. federal law enforcement personnel in Minneapolis shot an undocumented migrant from Venezuela during a targeted operation, as stated by officials, representing the second shooting involving federal officers in the city within the same week following Renee Good’s death.

Department of Homeland Security’s Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin reported that federal officers stopped the individual on Wednesday night during their operation in Minneapolis. According to officials, the subject fled in a vehicle, ultimately crashing into a parked car before attempting to escape on foot.

A federal officer pursued the individual, leading to a confrontation. McLaughlin indicated that two other individuals exited a nearby building and allegedly attacked the officer using a snow shovel and a broomstick. Fearing for his safety, the officer discharged his firearm, injuring the Venezuelan man in the leg.

Both the officer and the wounded man were taken to a hospital for treatment. The Department of Homeland Security mentioned that the two other suspects retreated into the building, where they briefly barricaded themselves but were subsequently apprehended.

An independent investigation into the shooting will be conducted by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

This latest event unfolded just days after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent fatally shot Renee Good during another enforcement operation in Minneapolis. While federal authorities have characterized that shooting as self-defense, state officials in Minnesota have accused the ICE agent of murder.
