Governor Hope Uzodimma announced that he is handing over a thriving Imo State that embraces industrialization, digital advancements, and reliable electricity.
He made these remarks during the golden jubilee celebration of the state, which took place in Owerri, the state capital.
Uzodimma highlighted the infrastructural advancements achieved by his administration over the past six years, stating that these developments have positioned Imo State towards sustainable growth and an enhanced economy.
Addressing a large audience in Owerri, which included Vice President Kashim Shettima, several state governors, members of the National Assembly, and traditional rulers from various regions, Uzodimma revealed that the strategic 25-year plan initiated last year aims to establish Imo as a digital industrial hub in Africa.
The governor expressed his commitment not only to fulfill the economic promises made to the people of Imo but also to foster renewed economic vigor as the state moves forward.
Uzodimma acknowledged the positive contributions of previous administrations, affirming that each government since 1976 has played a role in advancing the Imo State project and urged history to evaluate their legacies.
Regarding infrastructure, the governor detailed that his administration has built over 130 roads, upgraded the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport for international flights, expanded healthcare services through a statewide health insurance initiative, and inaugurated the Orashi Power Project, signifying Imo’s gradual transition away from reliance on generators.
Vice President Kashim Shettima praised the governor, referring to him as a “revolutionary leader” who is transforming Imo's political landscape, ensuring that governance is approached as a duty rather than a performance.
Shettima commended the state’s progress in sectors such as education, Nollywood, agriculture, and technology, asserting that Imo's human capital and institutional strengths are vital for sustaining long-term economic leadership.
He encouraged the state to build upon these achievements, stating that the Golden Jubilee should motivate “unity, innovation, and service-oriented policies” for the next half-century.
