Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who represents Abia North in the National Assembly, has refuted claims of a division within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State.
Speaking to his supporters at his Igbere residence in Bende Local Government Area on Friday, Kalu emphasized the party’s cohesion and its commitment to work together.
He expressed that the members of the APC are now more unified than ever, aiming to secure the state for President Bola Tinubu during the upcoming 2027 general elections.
The senator encouraged all party affiliates to maintain a sense of peace and legality in their political endeavors.
Kalu, a former governor of the state, specifically addressed any perceived disagreements between himself and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, regarding leadership in the party.
Benjamin Kalu is reportedly seeking to enter the gubernatorial race in Abia in the 2027 election cycle.
He clarified that his absence from the state congress of the party was due to his obligations in the National Assembly.
In his remarks, Kalu expressed confidence in the APC's preparations for the elections and asserted that the party would achieve success in all electoral contests in Abia.
"There is complete reconciliation within the APC, and those who doubt it are welcome to leave for other parties," he stated.
He emphasized that the APC intends to secure every available political position, including those of state Assembly members, House of Representatives members, the three senatorial seats, and the gubernatorial seat, asserting total commitment to this goal.
Kalu admitted that while they did not achieve the necessary votes for the presidency in 2023, he is optimistic about their ability to unite and deliver victories in the 2027 elections.
"Some individuals travel to Abuja to falsely inform the president about a supposed division within our ranks, but this assertion is incorrect," he added.
Kalu reaffirmed his commitment to supporting President Tinubu and the APC in Abia, stressing the importance of state policing, which he has championed since his governorship in 1999.
Moreover, his brother, Mascot Uzor Kalu, reiterated his determination to contest for the governorship under the APC's banner in 2027, encouraging fellow party members to stay engaged and optimistic about reclaiming the state's leadership.
Concerns were raised by other party stakeholders regarding the APC's capacity to take back Abia in the next electoral cycle.
