Vice President Kashim Shettima was present on Tuesday to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the culmination of the 2026 National Police Day celebration, which took place at Eagle Square in Abuja.
Upon arriving at the venue early in the day, the Vice President proceeded to inspect the parade and received the salute from officers of the Nigeria Police Force as the ceremony officially began.
Stanley Nkowcha, the Vice President's media aide, confirmed Shettima's attendance in a statement, noting that the event commenced with ceremonial honours.
"Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently taking the salute from officers on parade as the 2026 National Police Day ceremony gets underway," the statement indicated.
The grand finale of the National Police Day saw the attendance of high-ranking government officials, senior police executives, security chiefs, and personnel from various parts of the nation.
According to the organizers, the event aims to highlight the professionalism and discipline inherent in the police force, as well as to honor officers who have lost their lives while serving.
The statement further elaborated that the ceremony would feature tributes dedicated to fallen personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
On the parade ground, officers were observed standing in full parade formation, demonstrating remarkable regimental precision as they welcomed the Vice President.
The annual National Police Day celebration is designed to acknowledge the police's vital contributions to national security and to foster greater public trust in the force.
