Victor Osimhen was the decisive player for Galatasaray, scoring the game's only goal in their 1-0 victory over rivals Besiktas on Saturday.
The highly anticipated Istanbul derby saw two Nigerian internationals face off, with Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi anchoring the midfield for Besiktas, while his vice-captain Osimhen led the line for Galatasaray.
Galatasaray extended their lead at the top of the Turkish SuperLig standings following this hard-fought win. The match also saw Besiktas player Leroy Sane receive a red card in the 62nd minute.
The 27-year-old striker, Osimhen, had a moment of fortune in the sixth minute, receiving only a yellow card after losing possession and stepping on the Besiktas goalkeeper's knee as he attempted to score.
He was again fortunate to avoid a second booking later in the game for kicking the ball away after a foul was called against him while he was attempting to break through.
Despite the disciplinary scares, Osimhen made his mark in the 39th minute, converting a header from Leroy Sane's cross to secure the 1-0 win for Galatasaray.
This goal marks Osimhen's 11th league strike of the season, and it continues his impressive scoring streak, having now found the net in his last four matches across all competitions for Galatasaray.
