Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of Mamadi Doumbouya, the President-elect of Guinea-Conakry, before making his way to Davos, Switzerland for the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF).

A statement from the Vice President's office reveals that Shettima is set to attend the inauguration ceremony on Saturday, January 17, at the GLC Stadium in Nongo, Conakry, following Doumbouya’s election win.

His participation in this event is regarded as a key engagement under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, which aims to bolster regional leadership, enhance economic partnerships, and promote global economic integration.

Nigeria’s attendance at this occasion also reinforces its leadership position within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), especially in facilitating Guinea's return to a constitutional government after four years of political transition.

In addition to diplomatic support, this visit is anticipated to further strengthen trade relations between Nigeria and Guinea. Recent statistics indicate that Nigerian exports to Guinea, particularly of manufactured goods and agricultural products, have increased to around 3.29 million dollars.

After the inauguration in Guinea-Conakry, Vice President Shettima will head to Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, to take part in the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum, which is scheduled from January 19 to January 23, 2026.

The theme for the 2026 World Economic Forum is “A Spirit of Dialogue,” which aims to bring together global leaders from various sectors including government, business, civil society, and academia to foster trusted dialogue and collaborative solutions to urgent global challenges.

Key topics at this year’s forum will revolve around the fast-paced advancements spearheaded by emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, next-generation biotechnology, and advanced energy systems. Discussions will focus on responsibly harnessing these innovations to unlock new growth opportunities, extend access in emerging markets, invest in educational resources for an evolving workforce, and promote sustainable and inclusive development.

During the forum, Vice President Shettima is expected to engage with international leaders and investors regarding Nigeria’s economic reform strategy, showcase investment opportunities in the country, and emphasize Africa’s contribution to creating a resilient and inclusive global future.

The Vice President plans to return to Nigeria following the completion of his official activities in Davos.
