Omorinsola Babajide's football career has taken her to various leagues and countries, yet nothing compares to the feeling of triumph with the Super Falcons at the top of African football.

The winger expressed that lifting the WAFCON X title under head coach Justin Madugu represented a significant milestone in her career, affirming the years of effort and dedication that led to this achievement.

Born in London, Babajide opted to change her international allegiance from England to Nigeria in 2021 and made her debut with the Super Falcons in 2023. Her decision was driven by a deep sense of identity and conviction, which truly came to fruition at her first major tournament with Nigeria in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Rather than easing into the tournament, Babajide made an immediate impact by scoring and assisting in Nigeria's group-stage victory against Tunisia, showcasing her skills and justifying the confidence the coaching staff had in her.

The climax of the tournament came during the final against the host nation, Morocco, where Nigeria faced a two-goal deficit at halftime. Babajide recalled that the intermission brought about a collective determination among the team.

"During half-time, we embodied a never-give-up mentality. It was a final; we had no second chances, and we understood we had to dig deeper," she recounted.

The Super Falcons ignited their intensity, playing with renewed spirit and a refusal to lose. Their remarkable comeback resulted in Nigeria securing their tenth continental title, further establishing their supremacy in women's football on the continent.

"We found extra energy and that was the key to turning the game around and finding the winning goal. Our desire to win drove us to make our dream a reality," Babajide emphasized.

At 27 years old and currently playing for AS Roma Women, the victory meant more to her than just trophies; it was a deeply personal achievement.

"I’m Nigerian. No matter how significant the WAFCON achievement was or the success of Mission X, lifting that trophy in my first major tournament stands as the pinnacle of my career thus far," she said.

The joy of raising the WAFCON trophy is a testament to her commitment to football and her heritage. Despite already making history as the only Nigerian to receive the Liverpool Women’s Player of the Season award in 2019-2020, she believes that this continental success eclipses any individual accolades she has received in her career.

For Babajide, WAFCON X represented more than simply a tournament; it symbolized a validation of her choices, her cultural roots, and her integral role in Nigeria’s football narrative.
