Prominent female leaders and entrepreneurs have called for greater inclusivity in leadership and more robust support systems to bolster women's empowerment across various industries. This advocacy was a central theme at the 2026 Sheraton Lagos Executive Women Seminar, an event designed to foster dialogue, share professional journeys, and facilitate networking among a diverse group of women.
The annual seminar, hosted by Sheraton Lagos Hotel, focused on critical areas impacting professional women, including leadership beyond formal titles, the nuances of entrepreneurship, effective personal branding through storytelling, the importance of mental well-being, and the necessity of financial discipline.
Ada Matthews, who served as the Project Director, conceptualized and led the initiative. She meticulously designed each session to address the contemporary challenges and aspirations of executive women.
Now in its second year, the seminar has evolved beyond a singular event into a significant movement dedicated to nurturing purposeful, grounded, and driven female leaders. Sheraton Lagos continues to play a key role as the host and supporter of this platform, with Ms. Matthews's continued leadership ensuring that discussions on purposeful leadership, authentic storytelling, mental health, and sustainable success for women are consistently elevated.
During her address, Ms. Matthews shared her perspective that every woman possesses a unique narrative shaped by adversities, resilience, and triumphs. She highlighted that the sharing of these personal accounts can serve as a powerful source of encouragement and inspiration for others.
Ms. Matthews also expressed her firm belief that numerous impactful stories remain untold, stressing the critical role of strong networks in enabling women to amplify their voices and broaden their influence.
"We cannot truly prosper in isolation; the relationships we cultivate significantly influence our development," Ms. Matthews stated. "As Nigerian women, we are renowned for our diligence and ambition. However, it is imperative that we also consciously prioritize our well-being, recognizing the early indicators of burnout and adopting financial prudence as a cornerstone for enduring success."
She further noted that the seminar has progressed from a single occasion to a movement committed to developing women who are principled, intentional, and driven by a clear sense of purpose.
The seminar underscored Sheraton Lagos's role as a "Gathering Place," a venue deliberately created to promote collaboration, inspire professional growth, and cultivate leadership qualities.
