The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Gashua, Professor Yaqub Ahmed Geidam, has revealed significant initiatives designed to bolster the university's academic and environmental objectives.

During the recent 11th matriculation ceremony held in the university's 1,000-capacity hall, Professor Geidam characterized the event as an important milestone for both new students and the institution.

He pointed out that the matriculation oath is a serious pledge from the students to the University, stressing the expectation for them to adhere to the highest standards of behavior throughout their time at the university.

"This ceremony marks the official start of a transformative academic journey for our fresh students. By taking the matriculation oath, you officially become members of this esteemed academic community," he stated.

Professor Geidam acknowledged that this 11th matriculation is particularly momentous as it is the first under his tenure as the fourth substantive Vice- Chancellor of the university.

Reflecting on the university's development, he indicated that since its founding in February 2013, it has consistently expanded its academic offerings and facilities aimed at providing quality, globally competitive education.

He reported that the university commenced academic activities in 2014 with just two faculties and four academic programs, but has now expanded to five faculties and 34 academic programs, along with an emerging postgraduate school.

The Vice-Chancellor credited the institution's advancements to the backing of the Federal Government, the National Universities Commission, traditional institutions, development partners, and the dedication of the university's academic and administrative staff.

Additionally, he emphasized the ongoing reforms at the university aimed at equipping students to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving world. Among these is the University’s Digital Transformation Agenda, which seeks to modernize academic processes and improve access to digital learning resources while enhancing institutional efficacy.

Furthermore, he introduced the FUGA Green Code, an environmental and climate resilience initiative targeted at promoting sustainability on campus and empowering students to advocate environmental responsibility, particularly in the climate-sensitive North-East region.

"These initiatives form part of our strategy to cultivate a forward-thinking academic environment that prepares our graduates for the challenges of the 21st century," he remarked.

In his address to the newly admitted students, Professor Geidam congratulated them on their successful admission and encouraged them to maintain a focus on their studies.

He urged the students to become acquainted with the Students’ Handbook, underlining that it details their rights, responsibilities, and the regulations governing student conduct, including dress code, examination protocols, and hostel rules.

Furthermore, he reiterated the university's stringent stance on misconduct, cautioning against any involvement in cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractice, or other forms of indiscipline.

"At Federal University Gashua, we uphold that the essence of education is rooted in a combination of character and knowledge. These twin pillars define both the quality of our graduates and the integrity of the degrees we confer," he expressed.

Professor Geidam reassured the students of the university management's commitment to creating a secure and conducive learning atmosphere, along with ongoing investments in academic development, digital innovation, research, infrastructure, and student welfare.

He further mentioned initiatives being undertaken to introduce new academic programs and to review existing curricula to ensure relevance in addressing national and global development needs.

"Our goal is to cultivate graduates who are not only academically proficient but also highly employable, entrepreneurial, and capable of making meaningful contributions to both economic and social development," he remarked.

The Vice-Chancellor formally conferred matriculated status upon the new students and welcomed them to what he described as a vibrant academic community.

"On behalf of the Management and the entire University community, I extend a warm welcome to you at Federal University Gashua — the Oasis of Knowledge," he concluded.
