A 20-year-old woman, identified as Blessing, was fatally wounded by a stray bullet amidst a cultist-related shooting in Amassoma, Bayelsa State. The young woman had reportedly been returning from church activities when the incident occurred.
Reports indicate that the armed individuals stormed a local laundry shop with the intention of attacking a specific individual. The intended target, upon spotting the assailants, attempted to escape, leading the gunmen to open fire. Tragically, a bullet meant for the fleeing man missed its mark and struck Blessing, who was nearby.
Musa Muhammed, the spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed the unfortunate event. He stated that Blessing was transported to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
The police have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
