Wadatau Madawaki, the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology in Zamfara State, has officially stepped down from his role. This was made known by Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government. Governor Dauda Lawal acknowledged the resignation and announced that Commissioner of Budget and Planning, Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam, would take on the additional responsibilities of overseeing the Education Ministry immediately.

The governor expressed his confidence in Commissioner Gajam’s capability to maintain continuity and stability within the education sector of the state.

Governor Lawal also took a moment to commend Mr. Madawaki for his contributions and wished him success in his future pursuits.

It’s noteworthy that Madawaki had competed against Governor Lawal for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket in the 2022 elections. Following his loss, he managed to reconcile with Lawal and was subsequently named as a commissioner in the cabinet.

There remain questions around Madawaki's political ambitions, especially concerning whether he is aiming for the governorship again or seeking another position in the approaching 2027 elections.

On the same day, Governor Lawal directed all council members intending to enter the political race for the 2027 general elections to resign. This directive was conveyed during the latest State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Gusau.

According to the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the directive complies with the recently signed Electoral Act and the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) timetable for the 2027 elections. The statement included details of the governor's remarks, which prompted all council members looking to pursue political positions to resign by March 31, 2026. The Secretary to the State Government was instructed to disseminate this information to all political appointees and public servants with electoral aspirations.

Governor Lawal reiterated his dedication to the service of the people of Zamfara State, emphasizing his administration's commitment to development and governance.
