The First Lady of Zamfara State, Hurriya Dauda Lawal, has concluded the distribution of 50,000 Ramadan food packages to vulnerable households in all 14 local government areas of the state.

This distribution effort is being hailed by officials as one of the most significant humanitarian initiatives organized by the First Lady's office in the region, culminating in a formal ceremony in Gusau.

The outreach initiative commenced in the Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas before moving on to Birnin Magaji, Kaura Namoda, Gummi, and Bukkuyum Local Government Areas.

The program also included visits to Anka and Talata Mafara Local Government Areas, followed by Maradun, Bakura, Maru, Bungudu, and finally concluding in Tsafe and Gusau.

During the distribution effort, the First Lady noted that each food package featured 20kg bags of rice, beans, maize, and millet, complemented by 5kg of sugar, spaghetti, cooking oil, salt, and clothing items for women.

She highlighted that this intervention was aimed at easing the burden caused by rising food prices and providing support to families observing the Ramadan fast.

Lawal explained that distribution committees were set up at the ward level across the state to ensure the process was transparent, accountable, and inclusive of community participation.

“These committees collaborated with local government chairpersons and community leaders to identify eligible beneficiaries and oversee the distribution,” she stated, emphasizing her office's zero-tolerance policy towards any form of misappropriation or favoritism.

Furthermore, she conducted a separate special intervention in her role as ambassador for the state's Zakkat and Endowment Board, focusing on widows, orphans, and other vulnerable demographics.

Beneficiaries classified under this category received 25kg bags of rice, cash assistance of ₦20,000, and clothing materials to alleviate hardships during the fasting period.

The First Lady expressed gratitude to Governor Dauda Lawal for his support of programs aimed at enhancing the welfare of the populace.

In addition, Lawal launched Ramadan relief packages for 1,000 vulnerable households through the Ibrahim Bello Foundation, which is named in tribute to the late Emir of Gusau, Ibrahim Bello.

The distribution ceremony took place at the Emir’s Palace in Gusau.

Bashir Garba, the chairman of the foundation, indicated that the beneficiaries included widows, orphans, internally displaced individuals, and persons living with disabilities.

He mentioned that the packages consisted of rice and clothing for both men and women beneficiaries.

Lawal praised the foundation for its efforts to assist vulnerable community members and reiterated her office's commitment to working alongside organizations and agencies that support the underprivileged.

Officials from the foundation also updated the First Lady about its involvement in education, healthcare, community development, and poverty alleviation, alongside plans to enhance partnerships with international donors.
