The Zamfara State Government has obtained a commitment from the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) to establish a cutting-edge automotive training center in Gusau, targeted for opening in the second quarter of 2026.
This information was relayed in a statement issued by Ibrahim Bello Marafa, the Coordinator for the Made in Nigeria Special Project from the Zamfara State Office.
The center is part of a broader initiative that includes 21 automotive training facilities across the country, designed to enhance the technical skills of individuals in vehicle maintenance, repairs, and conversion to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
During a meeting on Friday, NADDC's Director-General, Otunba Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, reaffirmed this commitment while welcoming Mr. Bello Marafa, the Zamfara State Coordinator of the Made in Nigeria Project, at his office in Abuja. This follows a prior visit by Governor Dauda Lawal to NADDC in June 2023, where he sought collaboration in developing skills.
Once operational, this center is expected to facilitate ongoing training for 100 youths and technicians, focusing on motorcycle and tricycle repairs, as well as heavy and light-duty vehicle maintenance, including CNG vehicle conversion and upkeep.
This initiative is aligned with Governor Lawal’s dedication to creating employment opportunities for the youth in Zamfara and will significantly aid in modernizing the state's mass transport system. The government plans to procure approximately 100 Electric Vehicles (EVs) for intra-state transportation in support of this modernization effort.
Additionally, the team shared details on the 'Made in Zamfara' electric handcycle created by the Zamfara State Electrification Agency (ZEA) aimed at assisting Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and their request for NADDC’s partnership to enhance this initiative.
