The Federal Ministry of Works has announced a budget proposal of more than N500 million aimed at training hairdressers and makeup artists, supplying grinding machines, motorcycles, and mini-vans, as well as conducting anti-drug abuse campaigns in selected states for 2026.
According to reports, the specifics of this proposed spending are detailed in the 2026 Appropriation Bill, which was made available on the Budget Office's website yesterday.
It has been noted that these initiatives will be distributed across various geographical zones in the country.
The report indicates that under budget item with code ERGP 12234747, there is a proposal to provide an undisclosed number of grinding machines to Women in the Ndokwa/Ukwani Federal Constituency (in the South South region) for a budgeted amount of N35 million.
Additionally, a similar sum of N35 million has been allocated for training and empowering women in hairdressing, makeup, and soap making in the Mikang/Shandam/Quampan Federal Constituency of Plateau State (located in the North Central region).
Furthermore, the budget proposal mentions an investment of N70 million for the empowerment and training of youths, as well as seven retirees, focusing on various skills and trade equipment in Inyamaltu/Deba, Gombe State (in the North East).
Moreover, there is another allocation of N70 million aimed at providing mini pick-up vans, mini shuttle buses, and motorcycles to constituents in the Abakaliki Federal Constituency in Ebonyi State (in the South East).
The document also includes proposals for training, sensitization, advocacy, and empowerment programs targeted at North Central youth regarding drug abuse in Zamfara State, among numerous other similar initiatives.
