A prison officer, aged 46, has been sentenced to prison after being filmed engaging in sexual activities with an inmate while her body-worn camera was on at HMP Highpoint located in Stradishall, Suffolk.

Rebecca Pinckard had admitted to charges of misconduct in a public office. The revelation of this incident came in July 2024 when footage from her body camera showed her with the inmate, Erion Nakdi, aged 42, inside a storage cupboard, as reported by MailOnline.

During a routine check by another prison officer, the footage was discovered. Pinckard, who hails from Cambridgeshire, was sentenced on Friday, January 16, to serve 32 weeks in custody.

According to court documents, the inappropriate encounters involved contact between April 9 and July 6, 2024. Aside from the incident inside the prison, it was noted that Pinckard had sent a supportive Moonpig card to Nakdi during personal challenges he was facing and failed to report explicit videos allegedly sent by Nakdi from his cell via social media.

The court noted that Pinckard had previously received warnings for being overly familiar with inmates, having shared cakes and sweets with them.

Judge Cartin remarked her actions were uncovered due to “a clumsy mistake” related to evidence collection, emphasizing that the conduct was not an isolated incident and persisted for several months, marking a decline in public trust in the criminal justice system.

In defense, Pinckard’s counsel characterized the event as a “moment of madness,” pointing out that she was experiencing hardship following the termination of a long-term relationship.

Meanwhile, Nakdi, who pleaded guilty to possessing a mobile phone while incarcerated, received a 10-month sentence that will run concurrently with his current term. He was previously sentenced to over 16 years in 2022 for conspiracy to distribute class A drugs.

HMP Highpoint stands as one of England's largest Category C prisons, accommodating around 1,300 inmates. Notable former inmates include Tony Martin, as well as Blake Fielder-Civil, the former partner of both George Michael and Amy Winehouse. Disgraced footballer Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has also served time for drug smuggling at this facility.
