50-Year-Old Minna Man Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting 12-Year-Old Boy with Roasted Meat Bait

The Niger State Police Command has taken into custody a 50-year-old man named Usman Abubakar, suspected of sodomizing a 12-year-old boy in the Angwan-Daji region of Minna.

The police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, revealed this information in a statement issued on Thursday, February 26, 2026, explaining that the arrest was initiated after receiving a complaint regarding the suspect.

Reportedly, the victim’s mother observed that her son was in distress and unable to sit comfortably.

Usman Abubakar, 50, arrested in Minna for allegedly sodomizing a 12-year-old boy with the lure of roasted meat.

Upon questioning, the boy named Abubakar, a local meat seller, as the individual who had assaulted him.

Following his arrest, the suspect admitted to the crime during interrogation, explaining that he had lured the young boy to his shop with promises of roasted meat.

"On February 22, 2026, a report was logged from Angwan-Daji regarding Usman Abubakar, aged 50, who was identified after the boy's mother discovered his son feeling pain in his anus, struggling to sit properly due to bruises on his bottom," the statement noted.

"When examined, the child identified a meat seller living near their home, later confirmed to be Usman Abubakar. The police operatives from 'A' Div Minna promptly arrested him, and he admitted to the allegations, acknowledging that he used roasted meat as bait to attract the boy to his shop for the act."

The police confirmed that the suspect is now in custody and the victim is undergoing a medical examination.

CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, the Commissioner of Police for Niger State, has condemned such acts of sexual violence and gross indecency. He assured that there will be a thorough investigation and prosecution of the suspect, while also emphasizing the need for parents and guardians to safeguard their children against such criminal behaviors.

"The Commissioner reiterated that the Police Command is dedicated to collaborating with relevant bodies, including the Child Rights Agency, Ministry of Women Affairs, FIDA, and the Judiciary, to protect children from harm," the statement concluded.
