A 62-year-old man named Imeje Matthew Daniel has been brought before the Family Magistrate’s Court in Akure, Ondo State, accused of defiling a 12-year- old girl, whose identity remains confidential.

Daniel was presented to Magistrate T.G. Alphonso, facing two charges related to indecent assault and defilement.

According to Police Prosecutor Martins Olowofeso, the alleged offences took place on February 28, 2025, falling under the jurisdiction of the Akure Magistrate’s Court in Ondo State.

Olowofeso mentioned that a medical report from the Ondo State Specialist Hospital (Mother and Child) was submitted to substantiate the accusation that the girl had been defiled.

The prosecutor highlighted that the alleged actions breach Sections 218 and 221 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 37, as stipulated in the laws governing Ondo State.

He requested that the court remand Daniel at the Olokuta Correctional Centre while awaiting further guidance from the Director of Public Prosecutions, describing the case as significant.

In response, Daniel stated that he was under the influence of alcohol during the incident and had no recollection of the events, asserting that he lost his memory that day.

The defendant’s counsel, M.C. Otega, contested the charges, arguing that they were not appropriately established given the victim’s age.

Otega also raised concerns regarding the admissibility of the medical report, claiming that it was handwritten and therefore not valid in court.
