A 23-year-old man, identified as Emmanuel Usman, has been taken into custody by the Ondo State Police Command on suspicion of defiling a 14-year-old girl. The alleged incident occurred in Ijebu-Owo, within the Owo Local Government Area of the state.
According to DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command's spokesperson, the report was initially lodged by the victim on March 29. The victim reportedly stated that Usman forcibly took her into his employer's office located along Ijebu Owo, where he subjected her to unlawful carnal knowledge against her will.
It was also alleged that the suspect issued threats to the victim, warning her against disclosing the incident to anyone in an attempt to intimidate her into silence. Despite these threats, the girl courageously reported the matter to the authorities, which prompted an immediate response from the police.
Operatives from the command's Gender-Based Violence Unit swiftly acted on the report, leading to the apprehension of the suspect. Usman is currently being held and has provided a statement that is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

Furthermore, the police are ensuring that additional psychosocial support mechanisms are available to aid the victim's recovery and well-being throughout the legal proceedings.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, has ordered that the case be handled with the highest degree of diligence, sensitivity, and speed to ensure justice is served.
Commissioner Lawal emphasized the command's steadfast commitment to eradicating all forms of sexual and gender-based violence across the state. He strongly condemned acts of defilement and all forms of abuse against minors, assuring the public that perpetrators will be brought to justice.
The public, including parents and guardians, are urged to remain vigilant, educate children on personal safety, and report any suspicious or criminal activities to the nearest police station.
