A$AP Rocky's Mother Motivated Him to Pursue Rihanna

The relationship between A$AP Rocky and Rihanna may appear effortless, but according to A$AP, it was his mother who initially urged him to go after the singer well before they became an item.

During an appearance on the “NYT Popcast” on Thursday, A$AP disclosed that his mother persistently motivated him to take action regarding Rihanna while they were merely friends at that time. He confessed that even though he had feelings for her, he believed that Rihanna did not see him in a romantic light back then. He reflected on his mother’s unwavering support, stating, "Mothers know best."

A$AP expressed his appreciation for the timing of their relationship, stating that he feels he wouldn't have been ready for it if it had happened earlier. He further elaborated on how naturally they connect and the similarities in their upbringings, mentioning, "We were aligned. Born in the same year. My father comes from her country. ... When I visit, I can connect with both sides of my family."

The two first encountered each other in 2012 when they shared the stage during the MTV Video Music Awards. After several years of friendship, A$AP Rocky and Rihanna officially became a couple in 2020 and have been together ever since.

They are parents to three children named RZA, Riot, and Rocki, and there is ongoing speculation about whether the couple is officially married. A$AP has occasionally sparked rumors by referring to Rihanna as his “wife,” yet neither party has publicly confirmed their marital status.

Currently, the couple seems to be prioritizing their family and careers, with A$AP describing their relationship as one that simply works for them.
