Accused of Stealing N1.5 Million in Cables, Man Faces Court in Akure

A 35-year-old scavenger, Suleiman Adams, has been brought before an Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court facing charges related to the alleged theft of cable wires and electrical equipment valued at N1.5 million. He pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

A 35-year-old scavenger identified as Suleiman Adams has been presented before the Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court, accused of stealing cable wires and electrical equipment estimated to be worth N1.5 million.

The defendant faces a two-count charge involving conspiracy and theft.

According to the prosecution, Adams, along with an accomplice still at large, allegedly conspired to commit a felony by stealing on March 10, 2026, around 1:50 p.m. The incident reportedly occurred at Bolcent Oil and Gas Filling Station, located in Shasha Market, off the Akure-Owo Express Road, within the Akure Magisterial District.

The prosecution further detailed that the defendant allegedly stole cable wires and other electrical items valued at N1,500,000, which are the property of one Gbenga Bajulaye of the aforementioned filling station.

These alleged offenses are said to contravene Sections 516 and 390(4)(a) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Laws of Ondo State 2006.

Inspector Nelson Akintimehin, representing the prosecution, requested the court to grant an adjournment to allow for the assembly of witnesses for the trial.

Adams, who appeared in court without legal representation, entered a plea of not guilty to the charges levied against him.

In his decision, Chief Magistrate Sunday Adedapo granted the defendant bail. The bail is set at N750,000, with a requirement for one surety in the same amount.

Additionally, the surety must provide proof of tax payment for the current year and two recent passport photographs. The court also mandated that the surety’s residence be verified by law enforcement officers.

The defendant has been remanded at the Olokuta correctional facility pending the fulfillment of the bail conditions.

The case has been adjourned to April 11, 2026, for further hearing.
