The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has voiced renewed concerns about the deteriorating security landscape in Nigeria, urging the government to implement decisive measures as the nation observes the Easter period.

In a statement released by its National Publicity Secretary, Prof. T. A. Muhammad-Baba, the ACF pointed out that the commemoration of Jesus Christ's crucifixion and resurrection is occurring against a backdrop of intensifying social, economic, and security challenges.

The forum observed that insecurity and criminal activities continue to rise, with a particular impact on Northern Nigeria, where numerous communities face recurrent attacks, leading to loss of life and property damage.

The ACF lamented that these persistent issues have resulted in widespread displacement, strained community relationships, and a pervasive sense of fear among the populace, characterising the trend as profoundly alarming.

It stressed that the continued presence of such challenges during a time meant for spiritual reflection, sacrifice, and hope necessitates an immediate and forceful intervention by security forces.

"Communities throughout the North continue to suffer destruction, unwarranted deaths, and displacement due to the actions of armed non-state actors and other criminal elements," the statement read.

Despite these grim circumstances, the ACF commended the resilience and determination of Nigerians to celebrate Easter, acknowledging that their faith and hope for a brighter future remain strong.

However, the forum maintained that concrete actions, beyond prayers, are essential to tackle the security crisis. It implored authorities to intensify their efforts in dismantling terrorist organisations and putting an end to the cycle of violence.

Furthermore, it called for the revitalisation and enhanced proactivity of security agencies in confronting the threats that endanger communities nationwide.

The ACF also encouraged citizens to maintain peace, abide by the law, and continue their prayers, expressing optimism that Nigeria can overcome its present difficulties to achieve lasting peace and prosperity.
