Activist Detoun Adejobi has taken legal action against Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun after the state police filed six charges against her in the Abeokuta High Court, alleging that she had cyberbullied the governor on social media.
Back in December 2025, Detoun criticized the governor online in the wake of a tragic incident where two friends of boxer Anthony Joshua lost their lives in a fatal accident. She accused the Ogun State Government of lacking ambulances and labelled Governor Dapo as a "wicked governor" who prioritizes personal affairs over the essential services needed by the state. Detoun further stated that his mother should seek forgiveness from God for bringing him into the world.
On January 19, the Ogun State Police issued a statement declaring they had filed charges against her based on her allegations of cyberbullying and misinformation about the governor. According to the police, she did not respond to their summons, claiming illness and providing a medical report that was later deemed illegitimate. The physician who provided this medical certificate was reportedly apprehended.
In response to these accusations via her Instagram profile, Detoun asserted her desire to engage with the police, mentioning that she received their invitation, to which she replied indicating her availability on January 27. She expressed surprise at their announcement on January 19 that she was evading them.
Detoun denied the cyberbullying allegations, stating her criticisms were on behalf of the people of Ogun State, her home, and lamented the governor's apparent disconnect from public grievances. She further emphasized that unlike the aides of Lagos State Governor Sanwo-Olu, who actively respond to citizens' concerns, Governor Abiodun and his team ignore the pleas of their community.
"What legacies have you established? An unfeeling leader... What impact can you claim from your six years in office and what do you plan to leave behind? Look at the state of Ogun now! You perceiving my words as political motivation is misguided; I speak for my people, and they may not always appreciate my tone.
Dapo, I have exposed you to the scrutiny you deserve! For years you have disregarded us; we will not tolerate ineffective governance. You owe us accountability. When we speak, you are compelled to listen.
You threaten to imprison me? Dapo, you underestimate who you are up against. Those who handed power to you did not succeed against me. This is our nation! You cannot control me!" she declared.
Detoun further criticized politicians who exploit the Cybercrime law to suppress citizens. She highlighted that as a sitting governor, residents possess the right to hold Governor Abiodun accountable regardless of where he may be seen.
"I told you that you lack proper upbringing, Dapo. If you had been raised right, you wouldn't be reveling in this situation, using your power frivolously. You are so eager to enter the Senate, yet you can't protect or defend us? Who do you think you are, Dapo? During my moments of pleading and despair, how many people came to my aid?
This is a personal struggle for you and me—bring it on; I am not backing down. The support I have is greater than your threats. Your attempts to imprison me are futile. Stop reveling in your purported power. Previous governors have tried and failed. Face me and disprove my allegations; I stand ready to defend my position.
While your state remains unsettled, you flit off to France for festivities, constantly attending parties!" she voiced angrily.
