The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has achieved a notable political milestone in Oyo State with a series of defections occurring in the Ibarapa area, a trend reflective of the evolving political landscape in the region.
At a well-attended town hall gathering in Ibarapa, numerous residents, loyal party members, and grassroots organizers from various political factions officially joined the ADC, capturing the attention of political analysts and stakeholders alike.
The mass movement, which included individuals from all three local government areas in the Ibarapa zone, was characterized by party officials as a demonstration of increasing belief in the ADC’s ideology, leadership, and its connection with local constituents.
This trend also highlights the party’s growing influence within Oyo State as public sentiment towards the two primary political parties continues to wane.
Hon. Yinka Olona, the ADC Chairman in Oyo State, welcomed the newcomers with enthusiasm, revealing his contentment with the party’s rising momentum statewide.
Olona pledged that the new members would be fully integrated into the party’s structure, emphasizing that the ADC is committed to principles of inclusiveness and internal democracy.
He stated that the party provides a viable option for political transformation within the state and is strategically positioned to play a critical role in upcoming electoral contests. He encouraged the incoming members to uphold the party’s values and actively engage in enhancing its grassroots networks.
"ADC is the suitable platform for the citizens of Oyo State and Nigeria in general. The developments we see in Ibarapa today exemplify the people's demand for a new political direction focused on responsibility, effective governance, and leadership that prioritizes the community," Olona asserted.
Speaking during the event, Barrister Bimpe Adelowo, the ADC Publicity Secretary for Oyo State, congratulated the newcomers and officially welcomed them into the ADC using the party’s symbolic handshake, a gesture that symbolizes unity, loyalty, and shared responsibilities. She urged the new members to stay committed to supporting ongoing mobilization efforts throughout the state.
Chief Niyi Aborisade, a governorship aspirant within the party, remarked on the mass defection as a pivotal moment in the political timeline of the Ibarapa region.
Aborisade noted that the decision to join the ADC signifies rising dissatisfaction with repeat leadership and unmet political pledges.
He commented on the ADC’s emerging role as a political vehicle capable of delivering trustworthy leadership and restoring public faith in governance. "The time for liberation is now, and the day of joy is approaching," Aborisade described, asserting that the party’s message is gaining traction nationwide.
The town hall meeting saw significant involvement from party supporters and local stakeholders, with representation from all three local government areas in Ibarapa. Hon. Segun Erinle from Ibadan North-East was also present, praising the ADC's community-focused political methods.
Party officials indicated that the defections from Ibarapa are part of a wider mobilization strategy aimed at strengthening the ADC's visibility throughout Oyo State as political activities increase in anticipation of future elections.
