Philip Aduda, who previously served as the senator for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during the 9th National Assembly, visited the national headquarters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja on Tuesday.

Aduda, who announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) just hours earlier, is currently engaged in a private meeting with Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the national chairman of the APC.

He was accompanied by the Chairman-elect of Kuje Area Council.

In a resignation letter dated March 17, 2026, addressed to the chairman of his Karu Ward in Abuja, the former Senate Minority Leader indicated that he was resigning effective immediately.

The letter cited ongoing internal conflicts within the PDP as the reason for his exit, although it did not specify his future political plans.

However, his presence at the APC headquarters seems to affirm rumors from close aides who informed our correspondent that he is likely to officially join the ruling party in the near future.

After losing to the current senator Ireti Kingibe in the 2023 general elections, Aduda has been seen collaborating closely with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in various unofficial roles.

Insiders suggest that Wike might have had a significant role in Aduda’s transition to the APC with the intent of positioning him for a Senate candidacy in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Wike has also publicly criticized Senator Kingibe on multiple occasions, arguing that her perceived disconnect from her electoral base will hinder her chances of re-election.

Aduda's departure represents a considerable setback for the PDP in the FCT, where he has been a prominent political figure for more than ten years.

His shift to the APC could indicate a major political reshuffle within the capital as the ruling party aims to strengthen its influence ahead of the forthcoming elections.
