An aircraft that vanished earlier today is suspected to have gone down in Indonesia, resulting in the tragic loss of all 11 people on board.
The turboprop plane, operated by Indonesia Air Transport, took off from Yogyakarta for a two-hour journey to Makassar in South Sulawesi on Saturday. Air traffic control lost communication with the aircraft when it was approximately 12 miles away from the destination airport.
Search and rescue teams have been dispatched to the region to look for any survivors, as there were three passengers and eight crew members on the flight.
Andi Sultan, who heads the operations section of the Makassar Basarnas, stated: 'We have proceeded to the area indicated by the coordinates provided to us by Airnav, which is near the Leang-Leang region.
'To locate the ATR 42-500 aircraft, our team has mobilized 60 search and rescue personnel.
'Currently, the first unit has sent five individuals for initial assessments, with an additional 15 personnel assigned to the second team.
'Furthermore, for the third team, we are deploying 40 members who specialize in search and rescue operations.'
