A 14-year-old student has tragically died after being struck by a stray bullet that penetrated her home in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. The devastating incident occurred on Saturday, April 4, 2026.
Sources indicate that the bullet was allegedly discharged by military personnel engaged in celebratory gunfire at a wedding event taking place in close proximity.
The young victim, who resided with her family at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) quarters, was inside her house when the fatal shot found her.
A relative shared that the teenager had been preparing for a family wedding earlier that same day before the unfortunate event unfolded.
She was laid to rest on Sunday at the cemetery in Maiduguri.
Reports confirm that the deceased is the daughter of Dr. Jibril Khalil, the Director of the Heart Center and Head of Cardiac Surgery at UMTH.
