Hon. Alabi Bliss Oshionogue, the head of Akoko-Edo Local Government, has been officially impeached.
The impeachment was carried out via a letter signed by seven Councillors just hours after the Edo House of Assembly failed to mediate a peace meeting involving him and the Councillors.
Reports suggest that the Chairman's removal stemmed from efforts by three Councillors, who were absent from the meeting, to dismiss the other seven Councillors.
Sources indicate that the three Councillors had their positions declared vacant.
The seven Councillors then promptly hurried to Igarra, the Akoko-Edo Local Government headquarters, where they issued the impeachment letter, according to findings from The Nation.
The impeachment letter states: "We, the undersigned members of the Akoko Edo Local Government Area Legislative Arm, hereby impeach you as the acting Local Government Council Chairman, effective today, January 28, 2026.
This resolution arises from your misuse of office, authoritarian conduct, misappropriation of Council funds, anti-party behaviors, financial irresponsibility, forgery, and continual disregard for established authorities."
A widely circulated video captured the moment when the impeached Chairman was jeered and expelled from his position.
