Alarming Incident as Homeless Man Attempts to Abduct Toddler from Mother in Supermarket

A dramatic video has surfaced showing a shocking incident in which a homeless man tried to abduct an 18-month-old girl at a supermarket in Bergamo, creating a scene of chaos involving her parents.

The unsettling event took place at the Uscita supermarket while the family was making their way out through the automatic doors. A 47-year-old man from Romania lunged towards the child just as he entered the store.

Captured footage shows the individual, clad in a dark hoodie and green pants, seizing the toddler. A frantic struggle ensued as the child became the center of a tug-of-war, her mother fiercely clinging onto her while the man continued to pull.

In a swift reaction, the girl's father, identified in reports as Matteo, immediately set aside the shopping cart he was managing and rushed to her aid.

Onlookers quickly intervened to assist in freeing the child, and security personnel restrained the assailant until the authorities arrived.

Italian police apprehended the man at the scene, formally charging him with aggravated kidnapping of a minor and aggravated assault. He is currently in custody as investigations continue.

Following the incident, the toddler was transported to a medical facility where she received treatment for her injuries. Thankfully, she has since been discharged and is now recovering at home surrounded by her family.

Matteo recounted the ordeal, stating, "A survival instinct kicked in. Seeing your daughter in danger is terrifying. My response was instinctive; you don’t think, you just react."

Law enforcement officials indicated that the rationale behind the alleged kidnapping attempt is still under investigation. The release of the CCTV footage has incited a significant response online, with many expressing their shock and solidarity with the affected family.
