The Anambra State Government has executed a demolition of Airtight Guest House located in Awka, citing involvement in illicit activities as the primary reason. This operation led to the apprehension of 20 suspected sex workers and 18 male customers.

Situated at Y-Junction in Okpuno, within the Awka South Local Government Area, the guest house allegedly operated as both a brothel and a hub for criminal activities and drug trafficking.

The demolition occurred on Sunday, March 29, 2026, following a late-night raid by security personnel from Agunaechemba, during which they unearthed a substantial stockpile of illegal drugs, a weapon, and evidence pertaining to prostitution activities.

Ken Emeakayi, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security and the leader of the operation, stated that this action was executed in accordance with the provisions of the Anambra Homeland Security Law.

Among the drugs recovered during the raid were Tramadol, cannabis, nitrous oxide, Rohypnol, and other harmful substances, along with a locally manufactured single-barrel gun.

Emeakayi emphasized, “The Anambra State Government destroyed the establishment in alignment with the Homeland Security Law, which allows the government to seize any property associated with crimes such as kidnapping and drug-related offenses.”

He further warned property owners to thoroughly investigate the backgrounds and activities of potential tenants before leasing their properties, to prevent entanglement in illegal activities.

The raid unveiled a cache of illegal drugs, a weapon, and other indicators of prostitution, breaching the state’s security regulations.

The manager of Airtight Guest House, Paul Chike, claimed he was merely overseeing operations on behalf of the property owner, asserting measures had been implemented to prevent sex workers from bringing clients into the establishment.

Chike also stated that the firearm discovered was said to have been left behind by a guest.

During the operation, law enforcement officials apprehended the manager, supervising staff, storekeeper, and bar attendant as part of their crackdown on unlawful activities.
