Beninese music icon Angélique Kidjo has unveiled her latest album titled 'Hope', featuring a remarkable lineup of international guest artists such as Nigerian stars Davido and Ayra Starr, alongside prominent American figures like Pharrell Williams, Charlie Wilson, PJ Morton, and Nile Rodgers.
Kidjo made the announcement on her social media accounts, indicating that the album is set for release on April 24, 2026. The five-time Grammy winner shared a diverse selection of collaborators from various genres and regions, emphasizing the global essence of this upcoming project.
Featured artists on the album include Afrobeats sensation Davido, Grammy- nominated singer Ayra Starr, as well as Pharrell Williams. Others contributing to this musical venture are Charlie Wilson, PJ Morton, Nile Rodgers, Nigerian neo-highlife duo The Cavemen, American rapper Quavo, French artist Dadju, Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz, and the Soweto Gospel Choir from South Africa. Additionally, Brazilian singer Iza, Congolese star Fally Ipupa, and Florent Pagny are set to join the impressive roster.
While announcing the project on X, Kidjo referred to 'Hope' as a deeply personal work and expressed her appreciation for the artists who participated in it.
"After 5 years in the making, my new album HOPE!! will be released on April 24th. I have poured my entire heart into this album, and I’m extremely GRATEFUL to all the remarkable artists who have lent their talents to it!"
This forthcoming release marks Kidjo’s 19th studio album, adding to her remarkable career that spans nearly half a century. She is widely lauded as one of Africa’s most influential musicians, celebrated for her innovative fusion of traditional African sounds with modern musical influences.
Her work frequently incorporates elements of African folk traditions, intricate percussion, and multilingual lyrics in languages such as Yoruba, French, and English, garnering both critical acclaim and widespread recognition.
Over her career, Kidjo has received 16 Grammy nominations, triumphing in five of those categories. In 2011, she was acknowledged by The Guardian as one of the Top 100 Women in art, film, music, and fashion, while Forbes recognized her in 2014 as the first woman on the list of 'The 40 Most Powerful Celebrities in Africa.'
